Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid, based at the Theale or Colchester office in the United Kingdom.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain UEFI BIOS, board support packages for Linux, Windows, and VxWorks, device drivers, and bare-metal microcontroller software.
• Work with hardware designers during product design, board bring-up, and design proving to specify, activate, and validate prototype hardware.
• Define test software plans with the realisation team and support product specification with hardware design authorities and the software architect.
• Investigate and resolve challenging customer issues escalated to the engineering team.
• Develop software for complex and varying hardware and software platforms.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Embedded C programming for x86, PowerPC, or high-performance ARM processors.
• Practical experience programming a variety of hardware devices at register level and a good understanding of hardware.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to apply a systematic approach to resolving software issues thoroughly and efficiently.
• Experience developing Linux, Windows, and/or VxWorks board support packages, system software, and device drivers.
• Experience developing low-level embedded software for Linux or a similar operating system.
• Experience developing UEFI BIOS.
• Experience with bare-metal microcontroller programming, including direct register manipulation and low-level hardware interfacing.
