Principal Software Engineer (Identity & Security)

Location: Remote Canada; hybrid in Boston, MA or Houston, TX, US

U.S. base salary: $163,380–$261,410 USD per year, plus variable incentive pay and benefits.

What you will do

• Own platform-level security, identity, authentication, authorization, access control, tenant context, and security standards.
• Design and develop mission-critical core services that meet strict security, availability, performance, and reliability requirements.
• Define secure API contracts, authentication flows, authorization models, tenant-context propagation, and integration patterns between the B2B and Advantage platforms.
• Lead and mentor a team of 5–8 engineers through design reviews, code reviews, threat modeling, operational readiness, and secure coding practices.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Product Security, Product Engineering, AI, B2B Platform, and Advantage Platform teams on reusable platform capabilities.
• Lead security-sensitive incident investigations, root-cause analysis, remediation, customer support, and escalations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience delivering security-critical enterprise SaaS services at scale.
• 3+ years designing, building, or operating shared identity and platform-security services used by multiple products, including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, token-based authentication, role and permission models, and policy-driven access control.
• 3+ years as a technical leader or senior contributor on shared platform or infrastructure services.
• Deep backend development experience with a modern language such as Java, C#, Python, TypeScript, Scala, or Rust.
• Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs used by multiple consumers, plus solid experience with SQL and data stores supporting platform services.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, distributed systems, and platform tradeoffs.
• Experience leading complex initiatives end to end across design, implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
• Experience leading initiatives across multiple platforms, engineering organizations, and ownership boundaries; mentoring engineers and influencing teams through collaboration and technical credibility.
• Experience translating strategic product or AI objectives into secure platform designs and executable delivery plans.
• Comfort with customer-facing support, escalations, competing stakeholder perspectives, and communication with Architecture, Security, Product, engineering leaders, customers, and junior engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP and containerized, orchestrated environments such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with Azure SQL.
• Microservices experience and familiarity with cloud-native security patterns and service-to-service communication.
• Exposure to DevOps and SRE practices, including monitoring, alerting, and automation.
