Software Architect, AI Systems and Platform (AI)

Location: San Francisco, California; in-person onboarding is required.

Salary: $274,000–$376,200 USD annual base salary for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Equity, bonus, health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, PTO, and parental leave are also offered.

What you will do

• Define and implement shared contracts for tasks, events, permissions, approvals, evidence, and usage.
• Set boundaries between model reasoning, agent harnesses, durable workflows, and authorization-enforcing services.
• Select and evaluate agent harnesses using representative identity tasks, failure tests, and operational evidence while keeping model providers and components replaceable.
• Design OpenAI and Anthropic API integrations, including data boundaries, latency, cost, version changes, and release quality.
• Build reference services for tenant isolation, scoped tool execution, idempotency, long approval waits, and verified results.
• Define transactional and analytics data architecture, connect Product, Applied AI, and Platform engineering, and guide critical implementations through production rollout and customer expansion.

Requirements

• Experience leading architecture and delivery across multiple engineering teams, with recent production code personally implemented.
• Deep knowledge of distributed services, API design, data consistency, cloud security, and production operations.
• Experience simplifying systems while improving reliability, security, or delivery speed.
• Ability to explain design tradeoffs, guide senior engineers, and remain accountable through implementation.
• Depth in either AI systems architecture or platform architecture, with the ability to work across the full product.
• For AI systems architecture: experience building and evaluating agent harnesses, context management, model integrations, and quality controls, including Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI Codex SDK, Strands Agents, LangChain Deep Agents, LangGraph, or a comparable custom runtime.
• For platform architecture: deep production systems experience and practical knowledge of backend, connector, security, data, workflow architecture, and model-driven workflow integrations.
• Hands-on experience with the stated stack, including Python FastAPI, React, TypeScript, AWS services, PostgreSQL, pgvector, S3, and cloud security and operations tools.

Nice to have

• Enterprise identity, security products, OAuth, OIDC, SAML, SCIM, or complex customer integrations.
• ClickHouse, BigQuery, agent evaluations, post-training systems, or open-source infrastructure.
• Experience building a new product within a larger enterprise while keeping technical decisions reversible.
