Senior Software Engineer (Cards)

Location: San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; Portland, OR; or remote within Canada or the United States

Salary: US employees: $166,600–$208,300 USD; Canadian employees: $157,400–$196,800 USD

What you will do

• Lead projects from ideation and technical specification through implementation and launch, working with product, engineering, and cross-functional partners.
• Build features across the stack, including customer-facing card experiences and backend systems that move money.
• Develop expertise in and work across authorization, clearing, settlement, disputes, reporting, card issuance, spend controls, and lifecycle management.
• Maintain operational excellence for highly observable systems targeting four-nines reliability.
• Mentor engineers and improve engineering quality through design reviews, code reviews, and collaboration.
• Partner with product, design, operations, risk, compliance, sales, and other teams.

Requirements

• Strong full-stack experience, a product mindset, systems thinking, and the ability to deliver projects.
• Experience making architectural decisions for complex systems and explaining the reasoning and trade-offs.
• Interest in delivering new features while maintaining the reliability of existing functionality.
• Strong focus on correctness in systems where failures have financial consequences.
• Clear communication, comfort with ambiguity, and an ability to mentor other engineers.
• Comfort with Haskell and TypeScript, or readiness to learn them.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or card issuing.
