Senior Hardware Power Engineer (Power Systems)

Location: Onsite in Sunnyvale, California, United States; must work from an HPE office at least 3 days per week, potentially more according to business needs.

Annual base salary: USD 140,500–285,000 in California. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design, analyze, develop, modify, and evaluate electrical and electronic parts, subsystems, and integrated circuitry for power delivery in hardware systems.
• Define design requirements, select critical components, and create power circuit designs using schematic capture and simulation.
• Develop board-mount and front-end power systems from system-level conceptualization and functional specifications through prototype testing, system integration, documentation, and manufacturing support.
• Prepare and review test plans, supervise testing, conduct bring-up and characterization of prototypes, and lead or participate in technical peer reviews.
• Assist with networking hardware architecture, design validation, feasibility studies, design-margin analysis, and power-supply development with suppliers.
• Mentor less experienced power engineers, develop technology initiatives, and participate in the HPE patent application process.

Requirements

• 6+ years of related power design engineering experience and a minimum bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• Solid experience with schematic capture and simulation tools, including SPICE.
• Practical experience with multilayer PCB layout tools and techniques.
• Experience using electrical design tools and software packages, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with the overall architecture of electronic hardware products and solutions.
• Experience designing and integrating electronic components, integrated circuitry, and algorithms into overall hardware architecture.
• Experience evaluating and proposing empirical analysis, modeling, and testing methods for component, circuit, and hardware designs, including thermal and emissions management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, mastery in English and the local language, and the ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options with senior management.
• Ability to direct support personnel involved in detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in electrical engineering.
• Familiarity with power development CAD tools such as Cadence Sigrity PowerDC.
• Working knowledge of communication interfaces such as I2C and PMBus.
• Firmware design experience.
