Design Manager (AI)

Location: Remote, United States; this role is based remotely and interviews are conducted virtually. A dedicated, secure work area and high-speed internet connection are required.

Base compensation: $135,000–$165,000 per year.

What you will do

• Lead day-to-day Design operations across the portfolio, coordinating intake, priorities, capacity, staffing, dependencies, risks, and commitments.
• Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to integrate Design into planning, prioritization, and delivery.
• Lead, coach, mentor, develop, recruit, and retain designers while supporting performance management and career growth.
• Represent Design in cross-functional planning, communicate priorities and tradeoffs, and bring customer and experience considerations into product decisions.
• Advance shared Design practices, standards, workflows, documentation, patterns, guidelines, and the design system.
• Support AI-native product development and step in to execute Design work when capacity constraints or urgent timelines require it.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Design or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in UX Design, Product Design, Interaction Design, or a related discipline.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or developing designers or other creative professionals.
• Strong understanding of user-centered Design practices and ability to provide design guidance, feedback, and critique.
• Strong organizational and operational skills, including managing competing priorities, assessing capacity, coordinating work across teams, and allocating Design resources.
• Ability to build effective relationships with Product, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners; strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience translating ambiguous stakeholder input into structured requirements or documented workflows and moving between managing team work and personally executing Design work.
• Ability to work effectively amid changing priorities, ambiguity, and evolving ways of working.
• Demonstrated experience designing AI-driven experiences, including designing for uncertainty, trust, transparency, and human decision-making.
• Demonstrated experience using AI tools to augment Design work, improve productivity, or explore new approaches.
• Commitment to continuous learning and adapting to new tools, technologies, and Design approaches.

• Experience with design systems, shared Design practices, standards, or guidelines.

• Experience coordinating Design work across multiple products, projects, or teams.
