TL;DR
Valve Test Engineer II (Cryogenic): Leading cryogenic valve development test campaigns for a high-thrust spacecraft engine with an accent on test planning, instrumentation, safety readiness, and engineering data analysis. Focus on executing pressure, flow, transient, environmental, endurance, and other campaign-specific tests, investigating anomalies, and guiding propulsion hardware design iterations.

Location: Bordeaux, France

Company

The Exploration Company builds spacecraft for human space exploration.

What you will do

  • Own component-level valve development test execution for the Storm high-thrust engine.
  • Translate engineering questions and requirements into test plans, matrices, procedures, measurable objectives, acceptance criteria, and success criteria.
  • Define test sequencing, configurations, instrumentation, data requirements, and readiness criteria.
  • Coordinate hardware, test benches, facilities, calibration, safety, and operational preparation; lead safety analyses and test readiness reviews.
  • Execute and oversee functional, pressure, flow, transient, environmental, endurance, and other campaign-specific tests; analyze data and investigate anomalies.
  • Produce traceable test reports, lead root-cause investigations, guide design iterations, and coordinate with design, analysis, manufacturing, quality, systems, and integration teams.

Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, propulsion, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3–4 years of experience planning and executing hardware development or qualification tests, ideally involving valves, fluid components, propulsion hardware, or other pressure-bearing components.
  • Strong hands-on experience with functional, pressure, flow, transient, leak, environmental, endurance, or burst testing of cryogenic components.
  • Practical knowledge of test planning, instrumentation, data acquisition, test execution, and engineering data analysis.
  • Ability to turn requirements and engineering questions into measurable test objectives, procedures, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to work hands-on with hardware and test benches, use data acquisition systems, investigate anomalies, and make evidence-based decisions.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, safety, risk-management, and configuration-control skills.
  • Ability to own a technical topic independently while coordinating across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.

Nice to have

  • Experience in space hardware, propulsion, safety-critical, or regulated environments.
  • Passion for space exploration and motivation to move propulsion hardware from drawings to tested engines.

Culture & Benefits

  • Agile environment with fast decision-making while maintaining focus on goals and systems.
  • Open and collaborative culture with transparent discussion of risks and obstacles.
  • Relocation assistance is provided for candidates willing to relocate, including visa sponsorship where applicable.
  • Equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and non-discrimination.

Hiring process

  • Submit a CV for consideration.
  • Offers are contingent on successful completion of a background check, subject to the country, role, and project.
