Utilities Assessor (Electricity/Electrical Infrastructure)

Location: UK, home based with travel across the UK; the role includes remote and onsite assessments. Birmingham is listed as the position location.

What you will do

• Conduct remote and onsite assessments and audits against NERS, Northern Powergrid Assessment Programmes, BOPAS, ISO 55001, PAS 128 and other utility assurance schemes.
• Evaluate management systems, operational processes, technical documentation, field activities, construction arrangements and asset management practices.
• Review electrical safety systems, risk controls, competence frameworks, authorisation processes and compliance across HV and LV utility operations.
• Prepare audit reports, present findings and recommendations, and identify opportunities for continual improvement while maintaining impartiality.
• Engage with ICPs, utility contractors, network operators and major infrastructure organisations, including senior client representatives.
• Support quotations, assessment planning, technical knowledge sharing, professional development and the evolution of hirify.global's utilities assurance services.

Requirements

• Significant experience within the electricity utility sector, including electricity, power distribution, infrastructure or utility services.
• Strong understanding of electrical network infrastructure, construction or maintenance activities.
• Experience conducting audits, inspections, assessments or compliance reviews.
• Knowledge of utility industry standards, regulations and governance frameworks.
• Experience engaging with operational teams, management and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to analyse technical information and make evidence-based decisions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, professional credibility, analytical ability and excellent report writing.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and commit to continuous learning and professional development.

Nice to have

• Experience with NERS, ICP operations, DNOs, HV/LV electrical networks, electrical authorisation and competency management systems.
• Knowledge of ISO 55001 Asset Management, PAS 128 Underground Utility Detection and CDM Regulations.
• Experience in utility infrastructure construction and commissioning, SHEQ leadership, incident investigation, root cause analysis or electrical safety training delivery.
