Engineering Manager - Data Migrations & Efficiency Engineering

What you will do

• Lead and develop the Data Migrations and Efficiency Engineering teams of approximately ten people, including hiring, development, performance management, and team capacity planning.
• Manage complex, deadline-bound, multi-market migration programmes, including planning, risk management, steering-group reporting, escalations, and delivery performance.
• Own migration-related relationships with enterprise customer stakeholders from kickoff through go-live, while coordinating with migration, architecture, commercial, and customer success functions.
• Set priorities for the migration platform, balance delivery capacity with platform investment, and own migration KPIs.
• Drive automation, AI, and self-service strategies that reduce migration effort and enable implementers and customers to run migrations through safe tooling.
• Steer pragmatic efficiency tooling and collaborate with onboarding product management and core engineering on batch data APIs, programmatic configuration, and solutions that may enter the core product.

Requirements

• Experience as both an engineer and a people manager, with significant experience leading software engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, technical delivery, and engineer development.
• Credibility in architecture discussions involving data pipelines, APIs, and high-volume data processing, while staying close enough to code and architecture to make sound technical decisions.
• Proven programme or delivery management experience with complex, deadline-bound technical programmes, ideally involving data migrations, system implementations, or enterprise rollouts.
• Experience working with demanding enterprise customers, representing engineering in senior customer discussions, negotiating realistic commitments, and leading cross-functional delivery.
• Strong prioritisation skills in an environment where urgent customer delivery competes with platform investment.
• A bias for automation and measuring success by work the team no longer needs to perform.
• Fluent English for collaboration with distributed teams and customers across Europe and North America.

Nice to have

• Healthcare, veterinary, or another regulated-domain background.
• Experience with ETL or data conversion tooling, or with building self-service platforms.
• Experience leading teams through organisational transitions or scale-ups.
