Manufacturing Engineering Intern

Location: Rolling Meadows, Illinois, United States; onsite manufacturing environment. Candidates must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR, including U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other protected individuals such as qualifying refugees and asylees.

What you will do

• Conduct time studies covering production cycle times, labor utilization, and operational efficiency.
• Observe and document assembly and machining processes, production workflows, standard work instructions, and manufacturing procedures.
• Analyze production data and workflows to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and process improvement opportunities.
• Support initiatives to reduce waste, improve throughput, optimize labor utilization, and enhance product quality.
• Evaluate workstation layouts, tooling, and equipment utilization, and prepare reports and presentations with findings and recommendations.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers, production supervisors, and operators on production challenges and engineering projects.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to collect, organize, and interpret data and communicate findings effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to document processes accurately and collaborate with engineering teams and production personnel.
• Interest in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, process optimization, and industrial operations.
• Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds and perform frequent standing, walking, hand motion, repetitive computer tasks, reaching, bending, and occasional stair climbing.
