Lead QA Engineer (Playwright)

Location: Fully remote within Bulgaria, with an option to work from the Sofia office.

What you will do

• Build and refactor critical Playwright UI and API automation and evolve shared patterns, standards, and quality gates across squads.
• Provide technical escalation for unstable test suites, CI bottlenecks, test data and environment issues, and critical-path regressions.
• Define scalable test data and environment patterns covering isolation, parallelism, and fixtures.
• Advise architects and engineering leads on API, component-level, and E2E test strategy, coverage, layering, and automation scope.
• Mentor QA engineers on Playwright, CI, and AI-assisted workflows, including prompting, review, and safe tool usage.
• Work with DevOps and developers on shift-left testing, pipeline reliability, Docker-based environments, and communicating quality risks and trade-offs to leadership.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in QA or test engineering, including evolving Playwright automation for large, long-lived SaaS products.
• Hands-on Playwright experience for UI and API testing, with JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python.
• Advanced daily use of AI-assisted development for test design, failure analysis, and coaching, with sound judgment about when human verification is required.
• Ability to diagnose and fix systemic quality issues involving parallelism, test data, flakiness, and pipeline design.
• Strong CI/CD experience running and improving automated suites and working with Docker in cloud-hosted delivery.
• Experience defining automation architecture and quality standards, including framework patterns, quality gates, and test layering used beyond a single squad.
• Excellent English and credibility when working with developers, architects, and leadership on risks and priorities.
