Senior Staff Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

Location: Poland; remote role for candidates in Poland, working Central European Time (CET) hours.

Salary: 9,600–12,000 USD per month on a B2B contract.

What you will do

• Drive the long-term technical vision and architectural evolution of core product systems across six Poland-based squads.
• Guide the transition from a monolithic Ruby on Rails application to a distributed, event-driven, domain-oriented architecture.
• Drive application performance, quality, responsiveness, scalability, and maintainability across core domain systems.
• Define subsystem boundaries, make strategic recommendations about functionality placement, and lead architectural enhancements and refactoring.
• Establish code quality standards, conduct code and architecture reviews, and guide automated testing at appropriate architectural layers.
• Lead cross-squad technical initiatives, maintain CI/CD environments, represent the domains in architecture discussions, and mentor engineers across the organization.

Requirements

• 9+ years of experience designing, building, and operating complex production systems.
• Deep experience with modern backend frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, Django, or Spring Boot.
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, or Node.js.
• Deep expertise with cloud platforms such as AWS, containerization, and serverless or cloud-native architectures.
• Proven success applying Domain-Driven Design principles across multiple teams or domains.
• Experience architecting and building event-driven systems with distributed messaging tools such as Kafka or SQS.
• Experience defining and improving CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or GitLab, together with automated testing strategies.
• Expertise in scalable API design and management, including RESTful APIs or GraphQL.
• Strong background in system observability and performance diagnostics.
• Proven experience improving team efficiency or output quality through AI tools and automation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
