Senior Software Engineer (Java)

What you will do

• Own the architecture and technical direction of a moderately scoped service in a greenfield behavioral data platform, from design through delivery.
• Deliver complete components and support coordination of feedback and work across the team.
• Partner with product managers, stakeholders, and customer teams to clarify requirements and create technical plans.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks, including gaps against SLAs and reliability commitments, before production impact.
• Lead data-driven design discussions, evaluate trade-offs, mentor less experienced engineers, and operate owned services.
• Improve delivery processes, use AI coding assistants and agents, and help lead technical communities of practice.

Requirements

• Deep hands-on expertise in Java and backend service design, with production experience applying security, reliability, and maintainability practices.
• Experience building and operating Kafka-based streaming pipelines and services in an AWS production environment.
• Strong experience with distributed systems, concurrency, and scaling, including diagnosing and resolving complex production issues.
• Experience mentoring engineers and providing constructive direction in code reviews and design discussions.
• Ability to partner directly with product managers and stakeholders to shape technical scope from ambiguous requirements.
• Sound judgment when selecting approaches for moderately to broadly scoped issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including consensus-building across differing technical viewpoints.
• Proficiency in English.

Nice to have

• Experience designing GraphQL APIs or microservices architectures at scale.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts and production behavior.
• Experience with distributed cloud data processing using Spark, Hadoop/Hive, BigQuery, Snowflake, or Redshift, or with Airflow and similar ETL/orchestration tools.
• Deep understanding of data modeling principles, including dimensional modeling and normalization, especially for behavioral data or user segmentation.
• Experience evaluating, benchmarking, or building custom agentic AI tools, prompt workflows, or developer automation.
• Exposure to recommendation systems or context-building for agentic and LLM-based experiences.
• Experience with SQL performance tuning or data visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker.
• Technical mentorship beyond the immediate team.
