Head of Financial Systems Engineering (Crypto)

Location: Remote, United States

Estimated base salary: $134.2K–$298.9K annually, plus potential equity and bonus. Additional benefits include a wellness allowance and, for US employees, medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

What you will do

• Report to the CFO and define the engineering vision, technical strategy, and delivery roadmap for financial systems.
• Assess fragmented data, processes, and technical debt; define target architecture and phased transformation plans.
• Lead, coach, and grow specialists across financial systems, data engineering, integrations, and ledger-related services.
• Set standards for financial data completeness, quality, lineage, ownership, reconciliation, accounting, and reporting.
• Guide architecture decisions for ledgers, subledgers, financial data models, APIs, and integrations across fiat and crypto activity.
• Lead modernization, migration, testing, observability, release controls, incident response, and cross-functional work with Finance, Product, Risk, Security, Compliance, Tax, Legal, and Engineering.

Requirements

• Significant software engineering and technical leadership experience, including leading experienced teams through complex financial systems or data architecture change.
• Strong experience hiring, coaching, and developing specialists while establishing ownership, engineering standards, and cross-functional partnerships.
• Deep understanding of ledgers, subledgers, double-entry concepts, reconciliation, settlement, and the path from operational events to auditable financial records.
• Experience with crypto or digital asset infrastructure, including on-chain activity, internal balances, custody or wallet flows, and connections to traditional financial systems.
• Strong technical judgment in distributed systems, data engineering, APIs, event-driven processing, and integrations across complex platforms.
• Experience defining target architectures and delivering transformation roadmaps across fragmented or legacy systems while maintaining production reliability.
• Experience designing for data completeness, accuracy, lineage, reconciliation, access control, and auditability.
• Sound production-operations judgment, including incident response, monitoring, debugging, change management, and reliability improvements.
• Ability to partner with senior Finance and Engineering leaders, translate financial and control needs into engineering roadmaps, lead experts, and communicate priorities and tradeoffs to executives and technical teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with Rust, TypeScript/Node.js, or Python.
• Experience with finance applications such as NetSuite, Kyriba, or BlackLine.
• Experience with SOX or SOC control environments.
