Manager, Compute Accounting

Location: San Francisco, CA or Seattle, WA; hybrid policy requires all staff to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office time.

Annual salary: $160,000–$190,000 USD.

What you will do

• Own the accounting lifecycle for compute and cloud infrastructure expenses, including monthly close, reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, journal entries, and flux analysis.
• Review cloud service provider and infrastructure contracts, track commitment-based agreements, and ensure appropriate accounting treatment, recognition, disclosure, and compliance.
• Perform accounts payable and vendor statement reconciliations and work with cloud providers and Engineering to resolve billing and accounting discrepancies.
• Build scalable accounting processes, controls, monitoring systems, and reporting that provide visibility into compute spending patterns and trends.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages and support internal and external audit requests.
• Drive process improvement and automation, including redesigned close workflows, automated data pipelines and reporting, AI-assisted tooling, and cross-functional projects from scoping through delivery.

Requirements

• 7+ years of progressive operational accounting experience.
• CPA or equivalent qualification with a strong understanding of GAAP.
• Hands-on month-end close experience, including accurate and timely accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Significant experience accounting for cloud service or compute infrastructure expenses, including associated contract review.
• Experience with cloud service provider cost structures and consumption-based services.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain issues clearly to vendors, engineers, and non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong analytical abilities, comfort with a high volume of transactions, organizational skills, attention to detail, and a record of resolving issues through completion.
• Experience building accounting processes, controls, and policy in high-growth environments.
• Proficiency with modern ERP systems; Workday is preferred.
• Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a field relevant to the role through coursework, training, or professional experience.

• Experience leading process transformation, automation, or finance systems projects from scoping through delivery.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for investigating large datasets.
• Comfort with cross-functional partnership in fast-paced environments with shifting priorities.
• SQL and BigQuery proficiency.
• Python skills for automation and analytical tools.
• Experience at cloud service providers, data center operators, or technology companies with consumption-based or usage-based business models.
• Big Four accounting experience combined with industry experience at technology companies.
• Exposure to infrastructure leases or assets, including colocation, GPU clusters, networking equipment, or data center buildouts.
• Experience implementing automated reconciliation and reporting solutions.
• Familiarity with commitment-based purchasing agreements and their accounting implications.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools, including Claude, for financial analysis, memo drafting, and close automation.
• Experience supporting rapid growth and scaling initiatives.
