Communications Leader (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week. Relocation assistance is offered to new employees.

Salary: $297,000–$330,000 base pay, plus equity, performance-related bonuses for eligible employees, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead model launches end to end across ChatGPT and the API, including positioning, messaging, media strategy, spokesperson preparation, rollout, and follow-through.
• Work with researchers, engineers, and product teams to understand capability changes, evaluations, model behavior, evidence, and limitations.
• Develop audience-specific stories for research, developers, customers, and consumers, including technical advances, use cases, business value, and everyday applications.
• Find and develop demonstrations, proof points, and real-world use cases while testing claims against evidence and clarifying generalizability.
• Write and edit launch blogs, messaging, FAQs, pitches, briefings, and model system card communications with safety researchers and communications colleagues.
• Build journalist relationships and coordinate consumer, developer, B2B, safety, regional communications, Marketing, and Legal partners across launches and follow-up stories.

Requirements

• Strong track record leading major launches for technically complex products or research, with ownership of strategy and execution.
• Ability to work closely with researchers and engineers, understand evaluations, ask precise questions, and identify the significance of capability changes.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to explain technical advances to researchers, developers, business customers, and everyday users.
• Ability to build evidence-based stories from demonstrations and real use cases and distinguish meaningful advances from results requiring additional context.
• Strong media judgment and trusted relationships with journalists, plus the ability to prepare technical and executive spokespeople for demanding questions.
• Ability to lead complex cross-functional launches, make sound decisions as plans change, and manage both strategic direction and details.
• Sound judgment regarding public claims, sensitive information, timing, expert review, and uncertainty.
• Ability to build cross-functional partnerships, provide clear editorial feedback, and demonstrate genuine curiosity about AI and how people use it.
