Communications Manager (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; remote-friendly within the US with travel required. Staff are expected to work from an office at least 25% of the time, and some roles may require more office time.

Annual salary: $265,000–$295,000 USD.

What you will do

• Drive day-to-day communications for Economic Research and Societal Impacts, including research tracking, publication planning, and reactive press.
• Lead communications planning and launch execution for the Anthropic Economic Index, recurring labor market analyses, the Economic Research Fund, and other research initiatives.
• Translate complex technical, quantitative, and academic research into narratives for policymakers, researchers, journalists, and broad public audiences.
• Build relationships with reporters, academic economists, think tank researchers, and outlets covering economics, labor, technology, research, and general interest topics.
• Draft communications plans, briefing documents, talking points, press materials, and social content; prepare researchers for media interviews, podcasts, and speaking engagements.
• Coordinate with communications, policy, editorial, and research teams on publishing strategy, sensitive press, major announcements, milestone engagements, and repeatable rollout playbooks.

Requirements

• Deep communications experience with significant depth in research, science, economics, or policy communications.
• Track record of translating complex, technical, or academic research into public narratives reaching audiences beyond specialist communities.
• Ability to read and interrogate quantitative research and engage substantively with researchers.
• Strong, active media relationships.
• Ability to move between long-lead strategic messaging and fast-turnaround tactical execution while maintaining quality.
• Experience leading multi-channel rollouts across strategy, digital, press, and cross-functional approvals.
• Intellectual curiosity about AI’s impact on the economy, society, and the future of work; ability to work in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
• Excitement about developing AI that is safe and beneficial.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with a relevant field of study demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice to have

• Experience at a research institution, think tank, economics publication, or policy organization communicating quantitative findings.
• Familiarity with the AI policy landscape and debates around AI’s labor market and societal impacts.
• Experience establishing communications processes or playbooks on a small, growing team.
• Experience working directly with economists, social scientists, or academic researchers on publication strategy.
• Experience managing sensitive or high-scrutiny press moments.
• Enthusiasm for using AI tools to improve communications workflows.
