Principal Software Development Engineer in Test (Performance & Bare-Metal)

Base salary: 140,400–252,800 CAD/year

What you will do

• Define and own test strategies for hypervisor behavior, VM performance, and fleet-level quality gates.
• Mentor SDETs on statistical rigor and systems-level testing.
• Design reproducible test environments that emulate bare-metal VM conditions with containers and validate data integrity without physical hardware.
• Develop automated performance benchmarks with statistical baselines, change-point detection, and regression gates for CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborate with product and SRE teams to define SLO measurement and validate deployment safety and rollback strategies.
• Write test harnesses and performance analysis pipelines in Go, Python, and Perl.

Requirements

• 12 years of testing experience, including performance testing, hypervisor platforms, and systems engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with KVM, QEMU, and libvirt internals, VM-exits, and NUMA/cache performance effects.
• Experience debugging across x86 and ARM architectures on bare-metal and emulated environments and isolating root causes.
• Strong Linux fundamentals covering the scheduler, memory management, I/O subsystems, storage architectures, and block devices.
• Statistical thinking covering experimental design, baseline analysis, variance control, and stakeholder communication.
• Proficiency with Linux perf, VTune, eBPF, Bash, Jenkins, and SaltStack.
