Android Engineering Manager (AOSP/Android TV)

Location: Remote within Canada; must be based in Canada and legally authorized to work in Canada, with significant overlap with US business hours.

Base compensation: $126,500 CAD per year, commensurate with experience. Variable compensation: up to 10% annual performance bonus.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, hire, develop, and retain a team of 3–5 Android engineers embedded in a client engineering organization.
• Plan and prioritize work with engineering and product leaders, own sprint and roadmap delihirify.global, and run team rituals.
• Guide the design and development of system and privileged apps in an AOSP-based Android TV product, including the launcher, settings, setup wizard, and SystemUI customizations.
• Trace problems from the app layer through the Android framework to hardware, coordinating with ODMs and SoC providers when needed.
• Lead Android platform upgrades, AOSP builds, image flashing, releases, OTA update flows, production support, and incident response.
• Set engineering standards, review designs and code, report team health and delihirify.global risks, and drive documentation and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• BS or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, including 5+ years of Android development in Kotlin and/or Java.
• 2+ years of direct engineering management experience, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
• Must be based in Canada, legally authorized to work in Canada, and able to work with significant overlap with US business hours.
• Exposure to AOSP code and Android framework behavior below the app layer, including activities and services, Binder, the permissions model, and system APIs.
• Strong modern Android development experience with Jetpack Compose and Room, plus solid modern Android architecture and design-pattern knowledge.
• Experience with resource-constrained embedded devices and the full software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations.
• Familiarity with the AOSP build system, including repo and Soong/Android.bp, building and flashing images to hardware, and TV or non-touch UI development with Compose for TV or Leanback and D-pad navigation.
• Strong debugging skills using adb, logcat, dumpsys, Perfetto, ANR analysis, and memory analysis; some full-stack development experience.

Nice to have

• Android bring-up experience or experience building system or privileged apps within an AOSP source tree.
• Experience shipping Android-based TVs, set-top boxes, or other embedded devices; customizing launcher, Settings, setup wizard, or SystemUI.
• Experience leading platform upgrades across major Android versions.
• Experience with TV framework APIs such as TV Input Framework, HDMI-CEC, and MediaSession, or with Media3/ExoPlayer.
• React Native, JavaScript, or TypeScript experience.
• Experience with OTA update flows, app distribution, device management, or DevicePolicyManager.
• Experience working with ODMs or SoC vendors and their Android SDKs.
• Experience leading teams embedded with clients or distributed across locations through staff augmentation or consulting.
