Senior Software Engineer, Privacy

Location: Remote Germany

Salary: €68,000–€91,000 EUR annually

hirify.global is a non-profit-backed technology company building open-source software and developing Firefox as a privacy-minded web browser and public internet platform.

What you will do

• Implement privacy-improving, anti-tracking, and threat intelligence protections in Firefox to mitigate user tracking and phishing.
• Implement architectural improvements in Gecko, the browser engine underlying Firefox.
• Build performant, low-latency, and maintainable code in C++, JavaScript, and Rust.
• Work asynchronously with a geographically distributed team, mostly across Europe and US-East.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related program, or equivalent work experience.
• At least 4 years of experience programming in C++ and Rust.
• Strong background in memory safety, multithreaded system architecture, or raw data stream manipulation.
• Ability to onboard quickly and deliver and improve complex software projects.
• Proven ability to independently scope and land complex features within tight release windows.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including clearly validating and communicating progress and decisions.

Nice to have

• Previous contributions to the hirify.global mission and codebase.
• Experience in browser development, including Gecko, Chromium, WebKit, or web engine runtime abstractions.
• Experience or strong interest in designing or leveraging machine learning pipelines to automate internal developer workflows.
• Deep understanding of web architecture, the web privacy and security model, and client-side data structures.
• Knowledge of basic statistical modeling.
• Proficiency with Python and SQL.
