Manager, Applied AI Engineering

Location: Remote; applicants must be authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 annually, plus a possible annual bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Serve as both a people manager and hands-on technical contributor or tech lead, adapting to project needs.
• Lead strategic enterprise AI initiatives by designing agentic and LLM-based systems and resolving complex technical problems.
• Design, build, and maintain production-grade MCP servers and connector services that securely expose capabilities and data to AI clients and agents.
• Manage AI-native engineers and teams using modern AI tooling, including copilots and agents.
• Own AI token and compute budgets, driving cost efficiency and responsible usage across AI tooling and infrastructure.
• Set technical standards for prompt engineering, RAG, agent orchestration, AI evaluation, software engineering, security, privacy, and compliance; support career development through mentorship and training.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.
• Experience leading teams of individual-contributor engineers, with strong empathy, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong hands-on full-stack experience with frontend technologies such as Angular or React; backend and API technologies such as Python and Node; MySQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB; and infrastructure technologies such as AWS, Azure, and Terraform.
• Experience developing scalable, enterprise-level AI-powered solutions using LLM frameworks such as LangChain and AI services such as Azure AI Search, Azure OpenAI Service, or Amazon Bedrock.
• Experience designing, building, and operating Model Context Protocol servers or similar connector services for secure AI client access to tools and data.
• Experience implementing accessible features in web applications.
• Ability to manage diverse projects and priorities concurrently in a dynamic environment without compromising quality or focus.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, modern development tools and methodologies, and OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or similar identity standards.
