Senior Trade Finance Underwriter

Location: New York, with positions also based in Washington DC, Los Angeles, and Chicago; primarily in the office.

Base salary: $100,000–$128,000 annually, plus eligibility for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan.

What you will do

• Perform credit analysis and recommend or approve credit limits, terms, reserves, deductibles, structures, and premiums for trade transactions.
• Analyze trade life cycles, working capital needs, buyer and seller risks, structural risks, mitigants, eligibility criteria, and transaction documentation.
• Prepare insurance quotations, transaction summaries, credit memoranda, financial models, business plans, and presentations for internal stakeholders, senior management, investors, brokers, and clients.
• Coordinate with underwriting, credit committees, legal, tax, accounting, compliance, onboarding, operations, product development, and business partner teams to structure, approve, execute, and monitor transactions.
• Monitor live transactions, including structural changes, endorsements, renewals, credit analysis updates, and compliance with underwriting guidelines and procedures.
• Support product and origination strategies, client and broker relationships, sales initiatives, trade transaction process improvements, and training for local and global colleagues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in finance or accounting.
• Mid-level experience in a trade credit or risk team, or related experience in banking and finance.
• Transactional experience in trade finance deals across a broad spectrum of products, including receivables, confirmed payables, supply chain finance, guarantees, letters of credit, and trade loans.
• Ability to distil accounts, financial information, and written information.
• Experience with new business generation and basic transactional modelling and forecasting.
• Strong written, oral, and presentation communication skills, interpersonal skills, business acumen, decision-making ability, and initiative.
• Organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage time pressure, deadlines, competing tasks, varied workloads, and priorities in a changing, fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, clients, and diverse global teams.
• Expertise in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and competence with IT packages and institutional systems.
• Willingness to travel.
