Principal Software Engineer - Tech (SAP)

Location: Bentonville, Arkansas, United States; onsite role associated with the Walmart payroll modernization program and US payroll operations.

Salary: $95,000–$165,000 annually, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock and regional pay zone compensation.

What you will do

• Lead the design and delivery of scalable SAP platform capabilities across the full software development lifecycle and multiple engineering teams.
• Define strategic architecture for enterprise payroll solutions, including scalability, compliance, security, high availability, reliability, performance, and operational resilience.
• Design and implement payroll processing, retroactive accounting, taxation, garnishments, benefits deductions, time integration, off-cycle payments, and year-end processing.
• Architect solutions for complex US payroll requirements serving more than 1.6 million associates each month.
• Provide strategic technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, collaborate with stakeholders, and translate complex business needs into technical solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement, modernization, simplification of legacy processes, and operational excellence across engineering initiatives.

Requirements

• Deep technical expertise in ABAP, ABAP HR, ABAP OO, CDS Views, AMDP, OData Services, Enhancements, Forms, Interfaces, Workflow, and SAP Integration technologies.
• Proven experience designing and building scalable, high-performance applications and integrations across SAP and non-SAP platforms.
• Experience with EPI-USE Variance Monitor and other SOLMAN/ALM tools.
• Experience integrating SAP solutions with Workday, ServiceNow, SAP Finance (FI), SuccessFactors, cloud services, and custom applications.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, system architecture patterns, security, performance optimization, and operational excellence.
• Either a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus 5 years of software engineering or related experience, or 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
