Platform Engineer (AWS/Kubernetes)

Location: Hybrid, based from offices in Columbia, Maryland, or San Antonio, Texas; generally one or two office days per week. Some Columbia assignments include periodic travel to San Antonio, and customer needs may change office attendance and travel requirements.

Salary: $103,690–$191,050 USD annually.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and enhance secure cloud platform capabilities from prototype through operational deployment.
• Build and manage virtual and container infrastructure using infrastructure as code and automation.
• Develop, deploy, troubleshoot, and administer Kubernetes environments and supporting platform components.
• Integrate open-source technologies and custom components to improve resilience, performance, and maintainability.
• Automate operating-system provisioning, configuration, and deployment workflows using Go or Python as appropriate.
• Strengthen platform monitoring, security, operational documentation, and collaboration with architects and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Active U.S. Government Secret clearance or higher and U.S. citizenship.
• Relevant platform engineering, infrastructure integration, or cloud/software engineering experience and education: general openings require at least 5 years with a related bachelor's degree, 3 years with a related master's degree, or 9 years with a high-school diploma or equivalent. More extensive openings require at least 9 years with a related bachelor's degree, 7 years with a related master's degree, or 13 years with a high-school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong Linux fundamentals covering hosts, networking, system security, troubleshooting, and shell/Bash scripting.
• Hands-on AWS infrastructure deployment and/or administration.
• Experience deploying or managing Kubernetes and associated workloads.
• Ability to write platform code or automation in Go or Python.
• Strong systems integration skills, practical understanding of infrastructure as code, and ability to work independently toward architectural goals.
• Ability to meet office attendance and periodic travel requirements.
• An applicable DoD 8140/8570 certification may be required depending on the opening and customer direction.
• Depending on the opening, experience may focus on Go platform engineering; Kubernetes administration and GitOps with Docker or Podman, Helm, Kustomize, and Flux; infrastructure provisioning and storage with Ansible, Puppet, Kickstart, Ceph, Rook, or Longhorn; or AWS cloud integration and Python/Go automation.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS architecture and hybrid/cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with OS and container hardening, STIGs, CIS benchmarks, or equivalent security controls.
• Experience with GitLab CI, Jenkins, Travis CI, or comparable CI/CD platforms.
• Familiarity with Big Data Platform environments, Hadoop, Spark, or distributed storage systems.
• Experience with VMware, Proxmox, or oVirt virtualization technologies.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab, and Agile delivery practices.
