Staff Platform/Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Palo Alto, CA; in-office collaboration 3 days per week.

Base salary: $210,000–$240,000 annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate distributed backend systems and scalable APIs that support the platform.
• Architect infrastructure for AI/LLM workloads, including model serving, orchestration, and data pipelines.
• Drive reliability, performance, security, deployment, observability, and incident response across production services.
• Own cloud infrastructure decisions and optimize latency, throughput, and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and AI/ML partners to translate requirements into robust technical solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and support technical excellence and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend or platform engineering experience, with a strong record of designing and shipping scalable, production-grade systems.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Deep expertise in at least one backend language: Python, Go, Java, or Rust.
• Experience with at least one cloud platform: AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration tools, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and data modeling at scale.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Experience building for B2B or enterprise SaaS products.

• Hands-on experience with AI/ML infrastructure, LLM serving, or generative AI systems.
