Associate Director of HVAC Engineering

Location: Hybrid; primary location in West Point, Pennsylvania, with secondary locations in Rahway, New Jersey; Durham, North Carolina; and Elkton, Virginia. Approximately 25% global travel is required. No relocation is offered. The role is available to US, Canada, and Puerto Rico residents through this careers site.

Salary: $142,400–$224,100 per year for the primary location; annual bonus and long-term incentive may also apply.

What you will do

• Lead or support HVAC design for capital projects from business case and concept development through detailed design, construction, startup, commissioning, and qualification.
• Develop HVAC solutions for sterile, bulk biological, solid dosage, and laboratory facilities across global sites.
• Provide technical guidance on HVAC utility systems, evaluate alternative solutions, and ensure project deliverables meet company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Author and maintain engineering design standards, guidelines, practices, and position papers.
• Collaborate with project management, technology, quality, automation, plant operations, safety teams, engineering firms, equipment vendors, and manufacturing site engineering teams.
• Conduct peer reviews and field walk-downs, troubleshoot HVAC issues, support sustainability and energy-saving initiatives, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or an applicable science degree.
• At least 10 years of experience designing HVAC and associated mechanical systems.
• Strong working knowledge of HVAC and mechanical utility system design, engineering fundamentals, regulatory requirements, equipment sizing, specifications, and system troubleshooting.
• Experience designing HVAC systems in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply building and industry-related codes.
• Broad knowledge of HVAC system materials and fabrication techniques.
• Ability to produce drawing deliverables, project specifications, facility User Requirement Specifications, and written design reports.
• Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, analytical, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of HVAC utility systems.
• Experience with cold temperature units and refrigeration systems.
• Experience with capital projects using a stage-gate capital management process.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and other 2D/3D design tools, including the ability to produce layout, PFD, and P&ID deliverables.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally; approximately 30% global travel is anticipated.
• Participation in industry professional or technical organizations.
