L &R Actuarial Intern (Insurance)

Location: Hybrid; Springfield, Illinois, with the ability to travel to the Springfield offices weekly.

Pay: $26/hour; salary is commensurate with experience and location.

What you will do

• Assist with building, maintaining, and running actuarial projection models using MG-ALFA or Excel-based tools for life and annuity product profitability evaluation.
• Prepare profit summaries, sensitivity testing, and risk analyses for senior audiences.
• Work with mortality, lapse-rate, and expense assumptions and analyze experience data supporting assumption development.
• Review competitor product pricing, design, and features to support product positioning.
• Identify opportunities to improve or automate spreadsheets and increase team efficiency.
• Participate in department and project meetings and contribute to cross-functional collaboration.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, business, or a related field.
• At least one actuarial exam completed through the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuary Society.
• Expertise in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and advanced functions.
• Strong analytical skills for analyzing data, interpreting trends, and making recommendations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings, collaborating, and explaining complex concepts.
• Ability to learn, adapt to feedback, manage multiple project deadlines, and prioritize work effectively.
• Detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and open to learning new skills.

Nice to have

• Exposure to SQL, Python, R, VBA, or dedicated actuarial software.
