Associate Transportation Planner (Multimodal Planning)

Location: US | NY | New York - 322 Eighth Avenue; occasional travel to client sites is required.

Base compensation: $117,600–$176,400 annually.

What you will do

• Lead and oversee strategic, citywide, and multimodal transportation planning and street design projects, including budgets, schedules, and QA/QC processes.
• Lead interdisciplinary teams of planners, transportation and civil engineers, and data scientists in developing technical reports, presentations, planning studies, policies, designs, and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Serve as project manager or principal in charge while building tools, procedures, and analyses that improve product consistency and technical quality.
• Develop client relationships, lead proposals and business development initiatives, and contribute to regional and national planning strategies.
• Represent the practice through thought leadership at conferences, professional organizations, and social media.
• Mentor staff, support workload planning and recruiting, and potentially manage a team of 2–4 staff members.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of transportation planning experience, including at least 5 years in a consulting firm or similar environment.
• Degree in urban planning, urban design, or a related field.
• Demonstrated success managing complex transportation planning and/or design projects, including staff, budgets, and clients.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to discuss current and emerging industry best practices authoritatively.
• Strong existing client and partner relationships.
• Ability to foster a team environment and lead, motivate, and mentor staff.
• Experience in marketing, networking, and business development.
• Familiarity with industry guidelines and best practices, including MUTCD, NACTO, and AASHTO.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Power BI, and/or other industry software.

Nice to have

• AICP certification.
• Professional experience in Upstate or Western New York, including Albany, Rochester, or Buffalo; North Jersey; or Philadelphia.
• Experience in Vision Zero and Safe Mobility, Active Transportation and Complete Streets, Comprehensive Planning, Strategic Planning, City or Neighborhood Mobility Plans, New Mobility, Micromobility, Curb Management, Corridor Planning, Highway Mitigation or Removal, Freight Planning, Sustainability and Resilience, or Transportation Demand Management.
• Involvement in relevant local or national professional organizations such as NACTO, APA, ITE, or TRB.
