Software Engineering Manager (Autonomous Vehicle Data)

Location: Hybrid in Austin, Texas or Sunnyvale, California; expected to report to the assigned location at least 3 times a week or at another frequency set by the manager.

What you will do

• Lead the AV Data Processing and Services team building petabyte-scale telemetry pipelines, storage backbones, and platform services.
• Contribute directly to technical design, implementation, and delivery as a player-coach while mentoring engineers.
• Recruit, mentor, and grow software and data engineering teams while promoting code quality, ownership, and engineering excellence.
• Own the vision and architectural roadmap for batch inference processing tools and streaming services supporting replay and simulation.
• Optimize cloud compute and storage across AWS, Azure, or GCP, including S3 tiering and distributed caches, balancing query performance and cost.
• Establish SLAs, monitoring, data lineage, automated testing, incident management, and root-cause analysis for mission-critical data services.

Requirements

• BA or BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or another relevant field, or equivalent real-world experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience in distributed systems, big data platforms, or cloud infrastructure, including 2+ years of formal engineering leadership.
• Experience designing, operating, and scaling petabyte-scale distributed data pipelines and storage systems using technologies such as Apache Spark, Beam, Ray, Flink, Kafka, Iceberg, Delta Lake, and/or Presto/Trino.
• Expert-level proficiency in C++, Rust, Go, or Python, with experience designing and implementing robust distributed systems.
• Experience deploying and managing services in at least one major public cloud provider—Azure, GCP, or AWS—using automation and observability for operational excellence.
• Experience translating complex, ambiguous cross-functional requirements into technical roadmaps and reliable software deliverables.
• Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, or other immigration support.

• Experience implementing data platform services such as catalog, indexing, planning, pruning, and optimization paths in a petabyte-scale environment.
