Senior Electrical Engineer, HIL

Location: 100% onsite at the El Segundo headquarters, El Segundo, California, United States. Extended hours and weekends may be required.

Salary: $158,000–$219,450 per year, plus equity.

Builds portable, factory-built nuclear microreactors, including a 1-megawatt fail-safe reactor designed for deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases.

What you will do

• Build the Hardware-in-the-Loop platform from the ground up, including plant simulation, real hardware-in-the-loop, and the test environment for the commercial microreactor.
• Design, build, maintain, and scale electrical test infrastructure, including test benches and new test platforms.
• Define electrical and software integration requirements for power distribution, signal conditioning, sensor mapping, actuator interfaces, and device simulation.
• Own the communication layer between hardware, control systems, and software, including protocol selection, timing, and boundary fault behavior.
• Lead electrical validation strategy, develop and iterate test procedures, execute tests, collect data, and lead analysis across multiple environments.
• Assemble, debug, and troubleshoot test hardware and harnesses; improve automation and tooling; lead design reviews and technical decisions with cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on electrical engineering experience, including hardware design, integration, and test.
• 3+ years developing Hardware-in-the-Loop systems, including signal conditioning, DAQ/I/O interfaces, and fixtures for embedded-controls validation.
• Demonstrated experience owning and building electrical test infrastructure.
• Proficiency with DAQ and test platforms such as dSpace, NI PXI, Speedgoat, or similar.
• Hands-on experience with data acquisition, test execution, and validation frameworks.
• Strong electrical and software debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in high-reliability, safety-critical, or regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, nuclear, medical, or automotive.
• Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary and must work 100% onsite at the El Segundo headquarters.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time simulation systems and FPGA-based hardware.
• Strong understanding of control fundamentals and software testing processes.
• Experience with trace capture tools or data acquisition and analysis tools.
• Comfort owning multiple test environments and defining new test infrastructure as program needs evolve.
