Legal Counsel (IT & Data Protection)

Location: Berlin; remote work from Germany. Hybrid setup.

What you will do

• Advise product and engineering teams on data protection from concept through launch, including AI-based features and new markets.
• Assess, prioritize, and manage data protection risks across systems and processes.
• Monitor international data protection and AI-related regulations and convert requirements into practical solutions.
• Review and negotiate data processing agreements and assess software vendors and tools.
• Own privacy policies, records of processing activities, and data subject requests including access, rectification, and erasure.
• Collaborate with the DPO, General Counsel, Legal team, and external advisors.

Requirements

• Legal qualification: Diploma, 1st state exam, LLM, or international equivalent.
• At least 4 years of experience in IT law and data protection at a law firm or in-house.
• Track record of providing practical, decision-ready advice to diverse stakeholders.
• Strong working knowledge of GDPR and its pragmatic application in a product environment.
• Experience working with engineering, product, and technical teams to translate legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements into product features, technical specifications, and workflows.
• Technical curiosity and willingness to understand systems and data flows.
• Pragmatic interest in AI and legal technology.
