TL;DR
Robotics Software Engineer - Construction (Robotics/AI): Developing and deploying autonomous robotics systems for construction jobsites with an accent on system integration, field-ready autonomy, perception, manipulation, and reliable operation in unstructured environments. Focus on integrating sensors, compute, networks, and software, validating systems through simulation and field testing, and diagnosing failures under difficult site conditions.

Location: Falls Church, VA, United States; willingness to travel to active construction sites and participate directly in testing and deployment is required.

Salary: $82,000.00–$150,000.00 per year; compensation may vary by city and state.

Company

hirify.global is a construction company whose Robotics Team develops and deploys robotics solutions to support project teams and transform construction jobsites.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and test software for complex field robotics applications and mature the robotics software stack.
  • Integrate robot platforms, sensors, actuators, embedded computers, networks, operator interfaces, APIs, SDKs, middleware, and third-party technologies.
  • Develop autonomy capabilities including localization, mapping, navigation, state estimation, mission planning, perception pipelines, and manipulation applications.
  • Use simulation, synthetic data, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and repeatable test environments to accelerate development and reduce field risk.
  • Plan and execute lab, test-site, and active-construction-site testing; deploy with field teams, collect data, diagnose issues, and convert feedback into engineering priorities.
  • Support deployed systems through remote and on-site troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and documentation of architectures, interfaces, tests, and deployment procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in robotics, computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or at least 2 years of experience developing, integrating, and testing field robotics systems.
  • Proficiency in C++, Python, and Linux-based robotics development.
  • Proficiency with version control such as Git, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization such as Docker.
  • Experience with APIs and SDKs, open-source software packages, and technical standards for integrating disparate technology components.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted and agentic software development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor.
  • Strong system-level troubleshooting across software, hardware, networking, and field operations.
  • Ability to work effectively in uncertain, fast-moving environments, take ownership of open-ended technical problems, communicate complex technical topics to varied audiences, and prioritize work across multiple projects.
  • Willingness to travel to active construction sites and participate directly in testing and deployment.

Nice to have

  • Experience developing robotic systems for construction, manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, mining, defense, or other demanding real-world environments.
  • Experience with ROS 2 or comparable robotics middleware, mobile robot perception, SLAM, and navigation for ground or aerial robots.
  • Experience developing or integrating mobile manipulation systems, including perception, motion planning, controls, end-effector integration, and task execution.
  • Experience integrating cameras, LiDAR, GNSS, IMUs, embedded computers, and GPU-accelerated perception.
  • Experience writing software drivers for sensors, actuators, and embedded systems, including RS232/422/485, CAN, TCP/IP, and related peripherals.
  • Experience developing low-latency teleoperation systems for real-time video, command, and telemetry streams with graceful degradation during intermittent connectivity.
  • Experience with cloud-connected robotics workflows using Azure, Azure DevOps, or AWS; web-based operator interfaces using React or JavaScript/TypeScript; and real-time video streaming using GStreamer.
  • Experience with Gazebo, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Unity, or NVIDIA Jetson devices.
  • Familiarity with IP networking, including subnetting, routing, DNS, DHCP, and mesh-network radios, plus diagnosing latency, packet loss, and connectivity issues in RF-constrained environments.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time position within the Robotics Team, reporting to the Robotics Software Lead.
  • Work includes research and development, pilot programs, field deployments, and collaboration with software and hardware engineers, field teams, vendors, partners, and end users.
  • Premium health care coverage including vision and dental.
  • Employer-matched 401(k), performance-based bonuses, wellness reimbursement, paid holidays and time off, and additional voluntary benefits and leave types.
  • Respectful and inclusive workplace with equal-opportunity employment practices.
