Senior Software Engineer (Core Java & iOS)

Location: Hybrid role based in Waterloo, Ontario, with other locations in Toronto and North York, Ontario; employees may work from the office and virtually based on business and client needs.

Base pay: CAD 100,000–143,000 annually.

What you will do

• Develop, enhance, test, and support full-stack Java applications, services, and APIs throughout implementation and production support.
• Develop and support native iOS applications.
• Troubleshoot and debug production and test environments, investigate incidents, restore service, perform root-cause analysis, and remediate vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with Software Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, and other partners to deliver quality solutions and stable application environments.
• Contribute to monitoring, change management, system upgrades, disaster recovery, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of experience developing and supporting back-end Java applications in an enterprise environment, including strong knowledge of Core Java/J2EE, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Spring MVC.
• At least 4 years of front-end development experience using React, JavaScript, and modern web technologies.
• At least 2 years of experience developing and supporting native iOS applications in an enterprise environment.
• Strong knowledge of web services and APIs, including REST, SOAP, JSON, and Java APIs.
• Working knowledge of middleware and application server technologies such as WebSphere or WebLogic.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues and working with SQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL databases.
• A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong collaboration, analytical, debugging, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing priorities.
• Reliability Security Clearance and satisfactory completion of applicable background checks are required, including a law enforcement inquiry and credit check. The Government of Canada may require an account of all activities during any period of 6 consecutive months spent outside Canada within the last 5 years.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or AWS.
• Familiarity with iOS architecture patterns or third-party frameworks.
• Exposure to Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket/Git, Gradle, Maven, CDD, or Ansible.
• Knowledge of web security, multi-factor authentication, Kafka, proxy technologies, ITIL, the software development lifecycle, or Agile ways of working.
