Principal Architect - Data Platforms & Architecture (Azure)

Location: Remote - US; flexible work location with a virtual-first approach. Work visa sponsorship is not available.

Base salary: $158,200–$237,300 USD per year, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary/utilization bonus.

What you will do

• Lead delivery of data strategy, data management, analytics, and modern data platform engagements.
• Run requirements-gathering, design-thinking, assessment, analysis, and stakeholder workshops to define current states, objectives, and future-state recommendations.
• Design Azure-based data platform architectures and help develop high-performing, reliable, and scalable solutions.
• Manage project delivery teams, mentor implementation teams, and ensure quality and client satisfaction.
• Develop strategies, assessments, roadmaps, business cases, design documents, and strategic recommendations.
• Build client relationships, communicate technical details to business and management stakeholders, and provide thought leadership for the Data Practice.

Requirements

• 10+ years of data and analytics experience, including a minimum of 5 years in database design and architecture, at least 2 years with Azure technologies, and previous consulting experience.
• Expert knowledge of data management, business intelligence, analytics, data movement using ETL/ELT, data warehousing, Azure SQL, and Synapse.
• Expert knowledge of Azure SQL Server, Azure Data Factory including ARM templates, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Lake, Azure Blob Storage, Power BI, Azure DevOps, and Microsoft Fabric.
• Knowledge of data governance, including data quality and profiling, master data management, and metadata management.
• Knowledge of business intelligence reporting and visualizations, including KPIs and scorecards, as well as predictive, prescriptive, and descriptive analytics.
• Experience in business process design and optimization, financial valuation for data and analytics, and designing data management operating models.
• Experience in at least two data management areas, including data warehousing and business intelligence, data science and ML, master data management, data governance, or data quality management.
• Experience with DMM, DAMA, and TOGAF frameworks; product management knowledge; and the ability to run workshops using methodologies such as Design Thinking.
• Strong presentation, written and verbal communication, facilitation, technical problem-solving, analytical thinking, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical teams.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a project team in a fast-paced, team-oriented information systems environment, with a willingness to learn new technologies.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Experience with R, Python, algorithms, and Azure ML Studio or Azure ML Services.
• Experience creating custom Microsoft Power BI visualizations using D3 and jQuery.
• Azure infrastructure architecture and design experience.
• Technical writing skills and Azure DevOps experience with source control, project deployment, and project management.
• Relevant certifications.
