Principal Engineer - Core Cloud Platform (AI)

Location: Helsinki, Finland, with flexible hybrid work and office attendance usually once a week; remote work is also available from the United Kingdom.

What you will do

• Own the architectural roadmap for the cloud, Kubernetes, and storage platform.
• Own cloud-side configuration and the Helm chart layer supporting all services.
• Build a cell registry and automate provisioning to reduce new cell setup from weeks to days.
• Design reusable cross-cell gate mechanisms and standardize control points across cells.
• Operate and evolve cloud, Kubernetes, and data storage platforms across hundreds of clusters, including upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Improve infrastructure security, reliability, cost efficiency, and performance while building self-service, agentic workflows, and AI-powered cloud tooling.

Requirements

• Extensive experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and AWS cloud.
• A proven track record of operating production SaaS systems based on Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure at scale, including large fleets with hundreds of clusters.
• Strong knowledge of data storage technologies including SQL, MongoDB, ClickHouse, and Elasticsearch.
• Strong operational and troubleshooting skills with Kubernetes, databases, and messaging systems.
• Deep understanding of networking and production use of service meshes and gateways.
• Experience separating infrastructure configuration from application code at scale.
• Experience with cell-based, multi-tenant, or multi-region architectures.
• Proficiency in Python and Golang.
• Experience driving high-performance CI/CD practices that support agentic workflows, plus the ability and desire to design, lead, influence, and deliver ambitious technical roadmaps.

Nice to have

• Experience with Vespa.
• Experience automating end-to-end provisioning of new environments, regions, or cells.
• Experience managing large Kubernetes fleets with lifecycle management tools.
• Production experience with HashiCorp Vault or similar secret management systems.
