Staff Backend Engineer, User Safety (Applied ML)

Location: Remote within the United States; optional access to offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago.

Base salary: $217,000–$303,900 USD annually, plus potential equity and commission depending on the position offered.

What you will do

• Work with product, data science, operations, and engineering teams to execute product and business strategy for platform safety.
• Contribute across ideation, technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
• Review code and design documents and help shape the technical roadmap.
• Lead engineers, define engineering standards, improve developer workflows, and recommend best practices.
• Coach and mentor engineers while driving technical and product strategy, architecture, operations, and execution.
• Develop new solutions for proactive detection of policy-violating content and users, including applied machine learning approaches.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages, including Go, Python, Rust, or Ruby.
• BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
• Self-directed, innovative, action-oriented approach and the ability to build in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
• Experience partnering effectively with cross-functional teams in a fully remote environment.
• Ability to discuss complex topics with both technical and non-technical audiences.
