Senior Backend Engineer II (AI)

Location: Kaunas and Vilnius, Lithuania. Hybrid work is available, with two office days recommended but not enforced. Up to 90 days per year may be spent on workation, including up to 21 days outside the EU.

Gross monthly salary: €6,900–€9,333.

What you will do

• Design and build the backend runtime for the internal AI agent platform on Kubernetes and AWS.
• Develop isolated sandboxes, coding harnesses, multi-step workflows, agent memory, and runtime management for agents and skills.
• Provide secure agent access to internal systems through identity, delegated user access, Okta, and MCP integrations with tools such as BigQuery, GitHub, Slack, and Atlassian.
• Build self-service capabilities that allow teams to create and run their own agents.
• Lead technical initiatives from RFCs and architecture decisions through reliable, observable production delivery.
• Mentor engineers and participate in the on-duty rotation approximately once every six weeks.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering and system design skills, preferably with Python, Ruby, Go, or Rust.
• Experience designing, building, and scaling backend systems or internal platforms used by multiple teams.
• Thorough understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and underlying infrastructure.
• Pragmatic architecture approach focused on scalability, extensibility, and deliberate technical debt management.
• Security-conscious approach to authentication, authorization, least-privilege access, and auditing.
• Effective communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience running LLM platforms in production, including agent development, MCP integrations, retrieval, or evaluations.
• Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, or similar infrastructure.
• Frequent use of AI coding tools and experience helping others use them effectively.
