SW Embedded BIOS Engineer

Location: Onsite in Spring, Texas, or Fort Collins, Colorado, United States

Salary: USD 110,000–253,000 annual base salary in Texas and Wisconsin; variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and debug BIOS enhancements, updates, and programming changes for server and high-performance computing platforms.
• Bring up and enable complex HPC platforms across BIOS, hardware, operating system, and validation boundaries.
• Assess design, coding, integration, validation, platform architecture, hardware dependencies, and firmware requirements.
• Create and execute BIOS and platform-firmware test plans, protocols, automation, scripts, and documentation; identify and resolve firmware, hardware initialization, and integration issues.
• Lead or coordinate projects with software engineers, hardware partners, BIOS vendors, silicon partners, and outsourced development teams.
• Communicate technical status, risks, design proposals, tradeoffs, and issue resolution, while mentoring less-experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent field.
• At least 5 years of experience in BIOS development.
• Expertise with C and C++ and software systems design tools used in platform firmware development.
• Expertise with BIOS technologies across multiple processor families, chipsets, and platform architectures.
• Expertise with UEFI firmware development, including platform initialization, driver development, debugging, and integration.
• Experience porting BIOS from a third-party vendor implementation to a proprietary platform.
• Experience with Linux development environments, build tools, scripting, firmware debugging, and firmware testing methodologies.
• Experience designing software systems for multiple platform types and hardware configurations.
• Strong analytical, assessment, and problem-solving skills for complex hardware, firmware, and system integration issues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to explain technical issues, architectures, tradeoffs, and recommendations to engineering teams and management.

Nice to have

• Experience with server platform bring-up, silicon initialization, ACPI, SMBIOS, IPMI or Redfish firmware interfaces, secure boot, firmware update flows, board-level debug tools, and collaboration with BIOS vendors or silicon partners.
