Safety Engineer (EHS) (Aerospace and Defense)

Location: Poway, CA, US; onsite role with a 9/80 schedule, typical hours from 7:00 or 8:00 AM to approximately 5:30 PM, and flexibility on start time. Ability to travel and work extended hours as required.

Salary: $69,000–$110,000 per year.

What you will do

• Identify, evaluate, and analyze workplace hazards, injuries, incidents, and operational risks.
• Conduct safety investigations, workplace and building inspections, hazard assessments, and corrective-action follow-up.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state OSHA standards, safety regulations, reporting requirements, and internal procedures.
• Coordinate and deliver employee training covering ergonomics, hazardous materials, PPE, emergency procedures, CPR/First Aid, AED, material handling, and Right-to-Know topics.
• Maintain safety manuals, inspection and incident records, regulatory reports, and documentation related to injuries and fatalities.
• Support waste management, hazardous waste, environmental safety, and safety programs for remote facilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, or a related technical field; additional professional experience may substitute for education.
• At least two years of progressively complex safety engineering experience with a Bachelor’s degree.
• General understanding of industrial hygiene, occupational safety principles, EHS regulations, OSHA standards, and safety best practices.
• Experience conducting EHS inspections, safety investigations, hazard assessments, corrective-action follow-up, regulatory reporting, safety documentation, and inspection readiness.
• Ability to coordinate and conduct safety training across departments and work areas, including programs related to hazardous materials, hazardous waste, environmental safety, and remote facilities.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate requirements, interpret regulations, and resolve non-routine technical problems.
• Strong verbal, written, documentation, reporting, presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills, including interaction with employees at all levels, senior management, external representatives, and remote facility contacts.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, use computers proficiently, and work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to work extended hours and travel as required.

Nice to have

• Certified Safety, Associate Safety Professional, or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager certification.
• Torque lift or forklift training or related experience.
• Experience supporting safety programs in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, technical, or regulated environments.
