Health and Safety Specialist - West Gulf Coast

Location: La Porte, Texas; supports approximately 10 hydrogen facilities across the Texas Gulf Coast and requires approximately 60% travel among assigned Texas facilities plus 10% travel outside the Texas Gulf Coast.

What you will do

• Provide health and safety guidance, coaching, and support to facility leaders, employees, and contractors across approximately 10 facilities and approximately 350 employees and contractors.
• Lead and support training on high-risk activities, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), energy isolation, confined space entry, hot work, and permit-required work.
• Support OSHA, Risk Management Plan (RMP), Process Safety Management (PSM), and other regulatory compliance requirements.
• Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, field observations, and compliance evaluations to identify hazards and drive continuous improvement.
• Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action development, and effectiveness verification.
• Support facility start-ups, maintenance outages, turnaround activities, contractor safety programs, emergency response planning, drills, regulatory inspections, and safety documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least five years of health and safety experience in petrochemical, chemical, industrial gas, refining, or manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, industrial safety programs, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Hands-on experience implementing, auditing, and training employees on LOTO and energy isolation programs.
• Experience conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action management, safety audits, risk assessments, and compliance evaluations.
• Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across a matrix organization.
• Ability to work independently and support multiple facilities without direct supervisory responsibility.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a TWIC card.

Nice to have

• Experience in hydrogen, ammonia, petrochemical, or industrial gas operations.
• Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) requirements.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
