Software Engineer (C++)

Location: Hybrid, with an average requirement of 2 days per week from an HPE office in Durham, North Carolina; Andover, Massachusetts; or Fort Collins, Colorado, United States.

Annual base salary: $132,500–$252,500 in Colorado; $143,000–$273,000 in Massachusetts; $126,500–$290,500 in North Carolina. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design and develop storage services, data path components, and systems infrastructure for the HPE Alletra Enterprise Storage Platform.
• Implement scalable, highly concurrent solutions using modern C++ in Linux environments.
• Investigate, debug, and resolve functional, reliability, and performance issues with profiling and diagnostic tools.
• Contribute to distributed storage features focused on availability, data integrity, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with software, performance, platform, and quality engineering teams and participate in design, code, and test reviews.
• Develop automated tests and validation frameworks, evaluate new technologies, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
• Typically 6–10 years of experience.
• Extensive experience with multiple software system design tools and languages, including C++ with STL, Boost, templates, basic C++, and object-oriented programming concepts, plus Python.
• Experience with systems, distributed systems, or embedded systems; Linux operating system concepts; and CPU, memory, and system architecture.
• Experience with multithreaded programming, algorithms and data structures, performant code, and debugging or profiling tools such as GDB and perf.
• Experience designing software architectures for products and solutions and integrating systems running on multiple platform types.
• Experience with software testing methodologies, including writing and executing test plans, debugging, and using testing scripts and tools.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and the local language; ability to communicate architectures, discuss design proposals, and negotiate options with senior management.

Nice to have

• Experience with file systems, storage, data path work, or systems infrastructure code.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes.
