Backend Team Lead (AI)

Location: Galway, Ireland; hybrid work with an average requirement of two days per week from an HPE office.

What you will do

• Own the technical quality, architecture, design, and roadmap for one or more product domains.
• Lead design reviews, code reviews, technical mentoring, cross-domain alignment, and practical AI adoption in engineering workflows.
• Address performance, fault-tolerance, and live production issues while delivering features against organizational roadmaps.
• Partner with Product Leads on prioritization, backlog, feasibility, resource allocation, process improvement, and operational metrics.
• Manage, coach, recruit, onboard, and develop a team of individual contributors.
• Serve as the onsite leader for the new Irish Zerto site, coordinating with HR, IT, Facilities, management, and global stakeholders while building site culture and operations.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of C# experience in complex, multi-threaded, performance-critical programming.
• Strong knowledge of Linux and virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, and OpenShift.
• Hands-on experience applying generative AI tools to streamline software development, plus a continuous-learning mindset.
• Deep expertise in software systems design, development methodologies, and integration across diverse platforms and technologies.
• Experience leading large features and designs from initial ideas and requirements through development and production.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence in cross-functional environments.
• Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team building, and conflict resolution.
• Advanced project management skills covering time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.
• Innovative problem-solving skills and the ability to lead and represent employees across functions, ideally as a site or onsite leader.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, with typically 10 years of experience including at least 4 years of people management.

Nice to have

• Kubernetes, virtualization, storage, networking, and Scrum/Agile experience.
• Prior experience building, organizing, or scaling a new team, group, or site from the ground up.
