Lead Product Software Engineer (Brightflag)

Location: Ireland; hybrid work with 8 office days per month, or remote from anywhere in Ireland. Applicants may be required to attend onsite interviews at a hirify.global office. Work permit sponsorship and self-sponsorship are not available.

Brightflag is an AI-powered enterprise legal management platform within hirify.global's Legal & Regulatory division, helping corporate legal departments manage operations, matters, legal spend, and collaboration with outside counsel.

What you will do

• Lead a cross-disciplinary team of 4–5 backend, frontend, and QA engineers from associate to senior level, managing performance, feedback, development, and delivery.
• Define technical direction for the team’s domain and work with Architects to develop scalable architecture.
• Set quality standards and own reliability, change failure rate, and predictable feature delivery.
• Coach engineers, delegate effectively, align work with individual growth, and build practices that can be adopted across engineering.
• Collaborate with Product, Data Science, Infrastructure, Architects, and senior leadership to influence technical direction and represent the team’s work.
• Balance hands-on technical work with people leadership and use AI tools to improve team speed and quality.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in backend, frontend, or QA, with deep expertise in at least one discipline and the technical judgement to guide engineers across all three.
• Experience as a line manager or team lead accountable for delivery, including difficult feedback and managing underperformance.
• Expert-level understanding of the software development lifecycle and engineering best practices.
• Experience solving complex technical problems in production systems involving performance, reliability, quality, or scale.
• Comprehensive understanding of software architecture, deployment topologies, and cloud environments; AWS is preferred.
• Deep domain knowledge of large-scale enterprise software or SaaS systems, ideally data-rich or AI-driven products.
• Experience designing or introducing frameworks, tools, or methodologies that improved delivery efficiency or system performance.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to influence technical direction beyond the immediate team.
• Experience representing a team’s work to senior stakeholders and a demonstrated passion for continuous learning and emerging technologies.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java and modern backend architectures.
• Experience working in a high-growth environment.
• Familiarity with Elastic Stack, AWS event architectures such as SNS, SQS, and EventBridge, and containerised development environments using Docker.
• Exposure to AI-driven systems, machine learning integrations, or large-scale data processing pipelines.
