Senior Software Engineer (AI/.NET)

Location: US Remote - New York, NY; candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

What you will do

• Build backend services, RESTful APIs, data models, integrations, and internal applications supporting grading and authentication operations.
• Design and operate event-driven, asynchronous, scheduled, serverless, containerized, and Python-based systems that move items through the grading lifecycle.
• Use AI tooling, preferably Claude, across software design, architecture, and implementation while owning the quality of shipped software.
• Contribute to frontend development with JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and Vue.js to deliver end-to-end features.
• Collaborate with Product, Technology, and Operations teams to translate requirements into maintainable technical designs.
• Troubleshoot production data, integration, service, and UI issues; participate in on-call support; improve documentation, observability, code quality, and engineering practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building production applications, with substantial backend experience and hands-on frontend experience.
• 3+ years of experience or strong proficiency in C# and .NET.
• Routine use of AI tooling in software design and development, with the judgment to review and take responsibility for its output.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and service integrations, defining module boundaries, and deciding when capabilities should become separate services.
• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests for production services.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases and data modeling, including SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
• Hands-on experience building and operating cloud production services, including Docker, Kubernetes or ECS, serverless compute behind an API gateway, and managed messaging and data stores.
• Experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and a component-based frontend framework.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or CloudFormation, and monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch or Datadog.
• Strong communication, troubleshooting, documentation, and requirements analysis skills; familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

Nice to have

• Experience designing asynchronous, event-driven, and distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS, Python and pytest or unittest, Apache Kafka, DynamoDB, or Vue.js.
• Experience partnering closely with Product and working directly with operations and business teams.
• Experience improving high-volume workflows by reducing repeated task times in interfaces or backend systems.
