Intelligent Controls & Automation Senior Engineer

Location: Iowa City Oral Care Site, United States; onsite manufacturing role.

Salary: $125,700–$157,100 per year.

What you will do

• Design and implement control strategies and automation systems for the startup and qualification of a new manufacturing business.
• Program PLC-based systems and integrate equipment, machine-to-machine communications, and higher-level data systems.
• Apply data analytics, digital tools, and advanced control methods, including AI/ML where applicable, to improve process capability and decision-making.
• Analyze system performance, troubleshoot root causes, and implement sustainable improvements to line performance, product quality, and safety.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, and project teams on automation opportunities and improvements.
• Maintain technical documentation, train plant personnel, and ensure compliance with electrical, machine safety, and corporate standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or a related technical field; electrical or automation engineering is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in industrial controls and automation.
• Experience with PLCs, preferably ControlLogix, and HMI/SCADA systems.
• Experience with continuous and/or batch process control, instrumentation, drives, motion control, and vision systems.
• Experience with industrial networks, system architecture, computing environments, server infrastructure, and virtualization.
• Knowledge of electrical design standards, applicable codes, machine safety, and electrical safety practices.
• Production-environment experience, including change management, version control, system validation, and startup support.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting, prioritize work, develop execution plans, and support others.
• Strong ownership, attention to detail, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and across teams or organizations.
