Controls Engineer (Automation)

Location: New Bern, North Carolina, United States; onsite

Base salary: $70,000–$110,000 USD per year, plus participation in an annual bonus plan or role-based sales incentive plan.

What you will do

• Design and program electrical controls for custom assembly applications, including hardware specifications, integration, electrical bills of materials, and schematics.
• Troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment with maintenance and engineering personnel.
• Apply machine safety and wiring standards, update design specifications, and modify existing equipment.
• Support new product development, assembly and testing solutions, and engineering and manufacturing improvement initiatives.
• Design and implement automated manufacturing technology involving robotics, vision systems, advanced motion control, and shop floor data systems.
• Coordinate with integrators and machine builders, manage controls documentation, develop capital expenditure requests, and present project data.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Knowledge of specifying, integrating, and programming automated and semi-automated equipment, including robotics, motion control, vision, digital and analog sensors, and variable frequency drives.
• Functional knowledge of machine safety, wiring standards, and relevant code requirements.
• Functional knowledge of network architecture and infrastructure.
• Detailed problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Nice to have

• At least two years of experience in controls design, panel construction, and PLC programming in a high-volume assembly environment with cellular, semi-automated, and fully automated processes.
