Project Manager, Major Projects Delivery

Location: Washington, DC, United States; other location: Springfield, VA. Some travel within service territories is required.

Salary: $114,700–$166,450 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills.

What you will do

• Define major projects and strategic initiatives with business, strategy, and cross-functional leaders, establishing objectives, scope, costs, schedules, deliverables, resources, constraints, and execution strategies.
• Lead projects through initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closeout while managing scope, schedule, cost, risks, issues, changes, resources, decisions, and dependencies.
• Apply project controls, governance frameworks, and stage-gate requirements; monitor performance, evaluate variances, and implement corrective actions.
• Support programs and portfolios composed of interdependent projects, including prioritization, resource planning, KPI tracking, reporting, and cross-project risk resolution.
• Coordinate senior leaders, functional teams, external partners, vendors, consultants, and contractors while maintaining roles, decision rights, communication protocols, and stakeholder alignment.
• Prepare leadership reports, forecasts, presentations, and recommendations; lead closeout, transition planning, lessons learned, documentation retention, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business, or Construction Management is required, or equivalent relevant experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required.
• At least seven years of progressively responsible project management experience, including leading complex, cross-functional projects or strategic initiatives.
• Experience developing and managing project scope, schedule, cost, risks, issues, changes, resources, and stakeholder communications.
• Experience working within a PMO or structured project governance environment.
• Working knowledge of predictive, adaptive, or hybrid project management approaches and recognized methodologies and tools.
• Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Planner, or comparable platforms.

Nice to have

• MBA or another advanced degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related field.
• Experience delivering major infrastructure or capital projects.
• Experience in a regulated utility or another regulated industry.
• Understanding of utility operations, regulatory processes, construction delivery, and contractor management.
• Experience coordinating external vendors, consultants, or construction contractors.
