Lead AI Engineer (AI)

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa; other listed locations include Work From Home, USA, Denver, Colorado, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Office environment; occasional travel of less than 10% and work outside normal business hours may be required.

Salary: $131,000–$165,000 annually.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, and support AI applications, automation solutions, digital agents, and generative AI solutions.
• Develop agentic solutions using established frameworks and cloud technologies.
• Apply software engineering practices to deliver scalable, secure, reliable, and responsible AI applications and platforms.
• Support the full AI solution lifecycle from design through production support, including platform operation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Lead small projects or technical workstreams, collaborate with business, architecture, security, and platform teams, and communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor less experienced engineers through coaching and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, data science, or a related field.
• Eight years of experience in software engineering, AI engineering, or related disciplines, including two years of end-to-end AI solution design, development, testing, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Experience designing and developing agentic workflows.
• Experience delivering AI solutions in cloud environments.
• Experience with Amazon Web Services AWS Bedrock and AWS SageMaker.
• Experience with OpenAI technologies, AWS Bedrock Agents, and LangChain.
• Proficiency in Kubernetes and Docker containerization technologies.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without immigration sponsorship or an employer of record for immigration employment purposes.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in artificial intelligence, data science, or a related field.
• Experience in the insurance industry or other regulated industries.
• Experience supporting enterprise AI platforms and cloud-native solutions.
• Experience applying responsible AI, security, privacy, and governance practices.
• Professional certifications in artificial intelligence, cloud-native, or relevant developer technologies.
