Staff Software Engineer - AI II (AI)

Location: Hybrid, United States of America, Eagan, Minnesota. Other locations include Frisco, New York, and Ann Arbor in the United States, and Toronto, Canada. Work from anywhere is available for up to 8 weeks per year.

Base salary: $137,100–$254,700 USD for eligible US locations; $158,000–$293,000 USD in specified higher-range locations.

What you will do

• Architect and build enterprise AI systems, including RAG pipelines, knowledge graph architectures, autonomous agents, APIs, microservices, and web interfaces.
• Evaluate emerging AI techniques, lead proof-of-concept work, and translate research into technical roadmaps.
• Make architecture decisions, define scalable technical specifications, and mentor software engineers.
• Champion MLOps and LLMOps practices, AI lifecycle governance, testing, monitoring, and observability.
• Partner with AI researchers, engineering, design, and product teams to deliver secure, high-performing customer-facing legal research applications.
• Optimize AI systems for latency, cost, user experience, compliance, and measurable business value.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in senior or lead AI/ML systems roles.
• Hands-on generative AI, RAG, or LLM systems experience across architecture, agentic tools, evaluation, deployment, and metrics.
• Expert proficiency in Python or another object-oriented language, with strong backend and API design skills.
• Knowledge of ML principles, evaluation methods, distributed systems, and frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Advanced AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform experience, plus technical leadership and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with agent-based systems, OpenAI or Anthropic APIs, vector databases, embeddings, semantic search, and information retrieval.
• Knowledge of knowledge graphs, ontologies, taxonomies, Neo4j, Amazon Neptune, GraphRAG, and entity extraction.
• Experience in legal, tax, accounting, regulated industries, or large-scale search platforms.
• AI product launches, enterprise scaling, AI governance, model risk management, publications, patents, or speaking experience.
