Global Payroll Manager

Location: Irvine, California, United States. On-site.

What you will do

• Own accurate, on-time payroll for employees across UCAN, APAC, and EMEA through internal operations, local providers, and EOR partners.
• Manage payroll calendars, inputs, approvals, pay frequencies, currencies, tax withholding, filings, remittances, registrations, and year-end reporting.
• Own contractor and temporary-worker payments, including onboarding, invoicing, approvals, payment runs, worker classification coordination, and non-employee tax reporting.
• Manage staffing agency and EOR relationships, reconciling invoices with timesheets and contracted rates.
• Maintain BambooHR as the employee-data source of truth and own integrations with payroll providers, benefits carriers, and NetSuite.
• Build scalable payroll policies and controls, prepare journal entries and accruals, reconcile payroll liabilities, and advise leadership on payroll and tax implications of international hiring.

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive payroll experience, including 2–3 years managing multi-country payroll.
• Meaningful payroll experience in a startup environment and hands-on experience across UCAN, APAC, and EMEA.
• Direct experience paying contractors and temporary workers at scale, with working knowledge of worker-classification risk.
• Experience with BambooHR, including data management, reporting, and payroll integrations.
• Demonstrated ability to build and improve processes rather than only execute inherited processes.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain payroll and tax complexity in plain language to employees and leadership.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with BambooHR and TriNet.
• CPP or FPC certification from PayrollOrg, CPM certification from Canada, or CIPP certification from the UK.
• Experience with Deel, Rippling, Papaya Global, or ADP Global.
• Experience with equity payroll events, including option exercises, across jurisdictions.
• Background in Series A–C companies and experience being the first to formalize a process.
